Amrita Pritam

(1919–2005) was a renowned Indian writer and poet who wrote primarily in Punjabi and Hindi. She is best known for her poignant poetry and novels that explore themes of love, loss, and the trauma of Partition. Her famous work "Ajj Aakhaan Waris Shah Nu" remains a powerful expression of grief and human suffering. Pritam was the first Punjabi woman to win the Sahitya Akademi Award and later received the Jnanpith Award, India’s highest literary honor.
