Antonin Artaud

(1896–1948) was a French playwright, poet, and theatre theorist known for developing the concept of the ‘Theatre of Cruelty.’ He believed that theatre should be a powerful sensory experience that challenges audiences and confronts deeper psychological truths. Artaud’s ideas broke away from traditional narrative structures, emphasizing emotion, symbolism, and physical expression.
