Desmond Tutu

(1931–2021) was a South African Anglican archbishop and social activist known for his role in the fight against apartheid. A close ally of Nelson Mandela, Tutu advocated for nonviolent resistance and reconciliation. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his efforts to end racial segregation. After apartheid, he chaired the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, promoting healing and justice. Tutu’s teachings emphasized forgiveness, compassion, and human dignity.
