Sara Josepha Hale

(1788–1879) was an American writer and editor best known for her role in promoting Thanksgiving as a national holiday in the United States. She also authored the nursery rhyme "Mary Had a Little Lamb." Hale was an advocate for women’s education and social reform. Her editorial work shaped public opinion in the 19th century.
